Berncasteler Doctor

The legendary Doctor vineyard, the most expensive vineyard site in germany, is located behind the town of Bernkastel, apparently on the point of sliding straight into its streets. It measures only 3 hectares, with approx. 1 hectare belonging to our estate. The grapevines here are over 100 years old, uncrafted, producing a very low yield, but full of power strenghtness and an incredible fruit composition with a long sometimes neverending delicate, a kind of salty finish.


2013 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett

Wine Description

In the nose the for the Doctor typical complex, flinty, smokey and slightly herbal note. Beautiful aromas of pineapple, peach, apricot, ripe citrus counterbalanced by a great minerality and well integrated acidity.

Food Affinities

Great with seafood and fish, try it with Gravad lax. Also an excellent partner in combination with Asian Cuisine.

2013 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Spätlese

Wine Description

In the nose the for the Doctor typical smokiness and complex bouquet of peaches, apricots and citrus. Full-bodied with notes of spices and herbs, very well balanced and elegant with very long finish.

Food Affinities

Great with gravid lax or creamy cheeses. Also an excellent partner in combination with Asian Cuisine

2013 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Auslese

Wine Description

Ripe peaches, apricots, pink grapefruit and the for the Doctor typical smokyness in the nose. Hints of spices, a herbal touch with a small pinch of salt in the aftertaste make this extremely elegant wine an experience. This wine has an almost eternal life….

Food Affinities

The lusciousness forms a wonderful interplay with cheese towards the end of a meal. Try the Doctor with Stilton or  mature Brie. The wine has even enough power to be partnered with Roquefort. Perfect also with all kind of fruit based Desserts. Great with Goose Liver Paté.

2012 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett

Wine Description

In the nose the for the Doctor typical complex flinty, smokey and slightly herbal nose. In the beginning still a little closed, it shows floral notes with hints of gooseberry and apricots. Very well balanced and harmonious.

Food Affinities

Great with seafood and fish. Also try with sushi. Excellent partner in combination with Asian cuisine.

Wine Description

In the nose the typical smokyness of the Doctor. Tropical aromas of ripe stone fruit, hints of caramel and an elegant acidity create a great taste sensation.

Very dense with an almost oily-concentrated texture it presents itself extremely complex with kumquat, red apples, physalis, honey melon and caramel…………a never ending story. The for this vintage typical tartness makes this wine even livelier and guarantees an enormous maturing potential.

Wine Description

Typical for the Doctor the complex and slightly smoky nose. On the pallet concentrated yellow and red fruit. Pineapple, quince, red apples, hints of caramel and cocoa as well as a delicate spicyness of meadow-herbs, lovage, acacia-honey and raisins create an incredible interaction. The unique minerality and a perfectly integrated tartness make this wine an incredible experience, which will evolve more and more in the years to come.

2009 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett

Wine Description

Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett, Weingut Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch, Erben Müller-Burggraef. Medium intensity of lemony yellow colour. Pronounced aroma of vineyard peaches. Comes across as very sweet on the palate, fresh and luscious with generous peach flavour. Very pleasant and just tempting to drink  indiscriminately, but as well as an enourmous potential for maturing in the bottle.

2008 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett

Wine Description

The 2008 Kabinett is still a bit closed on the nose (Dec. 2009). As soon as it does open up, a variety of aromas is almost overwhelming. It is underlined by a lively acidity and minerality so typical of the Doctor vineyard site. It is an extremely complex wine with a tremendous aging potential.

Food Affinities

Not only great with lobster, scallops and other seafood, but also a great companion to the spices used in the modern American "fusion"-dishes.

Wine Description

Spicy and mineralic, for the moment still quite closed, this wine exhibits persistent ripe apple, peach and lime flavours. A moderately firm acidity matches the delicate structure to perfection.

Not only great with lobster, scallops and other seafood, but also a great companion to the spices used in the modern American "fusion"-dishes.

2007 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Spätlese Dry

Wine Description

Ripe golden reflexes in the glass; in the nose still quite closed but already now showing a beautiful juicy bouquet of overripe yellow exotic fruit, such as Lychee, Starfruit, Papaya and Mango with clear slatey and flinty minerals and a well integrated acidity. Incredibly concentrated ans dense with a very long finish that shows the for the „Doctor“ typical hint of saltyness. Alcohol, Fruit and Acidity form a magnificent triology.

Food Affinities

Sushi or Sashimi, grilled or steamed fish,  try it with a seabass in a salt crust.

Wine Description

Very rich and concentrated with fruit characters of pineapple, papaya, melon, rose petals and honeysuckle underpinned with a hint of tropical limes and grapefruit, all held together in a bowl of slatey minerality. The richness is         
balanced with elegant acidity with a palate that goes on and on.

Wine Description

Wine Description

The flavours will swamp any match. Enjoy this wine by itself after dessert!
